Great to meet you!

Listening and understanding you is my focus. Being heard is important. If you could have resolved the problem, you would have. My therapeutic experiences embrace people from various ethnicities, nationalities, and backgrounds. Needing help/others is a positive human quality. I respect various sources of strength and support for people to address & encourage the changes/challenges in their lives. Learning is a lifelong experience. Growth, change, & connection will support your journey in current events and relationships. Adjustments can be challenging, painful, and disorienting. Supportive guidance may assist this process. I have addressed various bad habits/addictions including substance abuse, including sexual, gambling, etc., men’s issues, anger/stress/affect management, severe mental illness, life/coping/transition skills, trauma/rape/child abuse, ministerial candidates/ministers, military/veterans, first responders, and parole/probation.

I, Dr. Kevin Schloneger, am a Texas psychologist since 1999 and have 40+ years mental health experience. In treatment, I have worked with biological, blended, adoptive, and foster families, as well as individuals & couples. I enjoy working with adolescents (13+ years ~ caretakers will need to provide birth certificate, legal caretaker(s)' photo ID's, and/or divorce decree {1st page with legal caretakers & minor(s), page with medical consent for minor(s), and last page with judge's signature & state's raised seal}), adults, and geriatrics.

My education is Ph.D. in clinical psychology {12/96} from California School Professional Psychology (now Alliant International University) Fresno, CA; MA in theology {8/86} from Fuller Theological Seminary: Pasadena, CA; & BA in psychology {5/83} from Evangel University: Springfield, MO.

My approach to therapy

In the initial session, I will present myself, confidentiality, fees, telehealth, & sessions before a client shares anything. Then, I will listen to the reason(s) for a client having initiated a session. The initial session contains questions to better understand a person as a person, not just a problem. This becomes helpful as sessions progress. I provide a lot of relevant education ("psycho-ed") in the initial sessions as I find it helpful for the why's associated with therapy. What works for one person doesn't for another. Understanding you is a process that can help foster how to support/guide your circumstances & goals.

Homework assignments, which are actually what a person is likely already doing, but with a twist, are provided to guide actions toward meaningful goals. Therapy starts slow and picks up speed. Trust, "rapport," takes time but is critical for therapy to work. The focus is safety and then actionable practices, which support selfcare & personal agendas. Listening to a client can be powerful for a person's care. My goal is to support clients to become good consumers of mental health services for their personal journeys.

What you can expect from me
