Great to meet you!

I engage clients proactively and warmly, with enthusiasm. I give the client time and space to get used to me, and for us to establish a rapport. Like to have the client come up with treatment goals, in the earlier stages of treatment, so they feel as if the sessions are leading in some way towards what they want, and where they would like to be in the future. The approaches used are based on what is appropriate, and most beneficial for the client. I also try to use approaches that the client appears to be comfortable with mostly. I have a psychodynamic orientation, and use other approaches when necessary, including CBT, DBT, and psychoeducation. I try to empower the clients and boost their self confidence overall. This naturally happens, to a degree, as the client becomes more comfortable with the therapist and their relationship.

My approach to therapy

I consider myself to be fairly open minded and eclectic as a clinician. I really enjoy working with people, and establishing a relationship with them. I have been in the field since 1991, and have been doing private practice since 2003. I have worked with all ages, stages, individuals, couples, families, and groups. I have worked with multiple ethnic groups in various settings, such as hospitals, schools, and clinics. I have worked with people who suffer from anxiety, depression, OCD, ADD, phobias, relationship issues, stage of life concerns, and some eating disorders.

What you can expect from me

Initially, upon meeting a client, I will introduce myself, and give the client an overview of what to expect in the initial intake and with the process going forward. At any point during the intake, I always encourage clients to ask any questions for me or about the process, or express any concerns they may have. I will inquire about prior experience with receiving therapy: how long were they in therapy, how frequently did they have sessions, how long ago did they have therapy, and what did they find helpful from being in therapy.
