Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Kimberly McGowan, LPC — Founder of Selera Counseling Services

I help individuals—children, teens, and adults—navigate life’s toughest seasons with compassion, clarity, and evidence-based tools for real change. Whether you're a parent seeking support for your child, a young adult facing transitions, or someone feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges, I offer a safe and supportive space to help you or your loved one heal and grow.

s, improving communication, or simply finding peace.

My Style

Clients describe me as warm, understanding, and honest. I show up with empathy, but I also gently challenge negative thought patterns and guide clients toward lasting change. I offer a calm, nonjudgmental space where kids feel heard, teens feel understood, and adults feel empowered.

For children and adolescents, I collaborate closely with caregivers (when appropriate), offering guidance and support while respecting the child’s privacy and voice.

My Strengths

  • Helping children and teens manage anxiety, anger, school stress, and identity issues
  • Supporting young adults through life transitions, relationships, and self-discovery
  • Trauma-informed care for individuals of all ages
  • Experience with grief, depression, emotional regulation, and family conflict
  • Culturally responsive care that honors individual backgrounds and values

You don’t have to do this alone. Whether you're a parent seeking support for your child or a young adult ready to take the next step, I'm here to walk alongside you. Let's explore if we’re the right fit—your healing journey starts with a single conversation.

My approach to therapy

My Approach

I approach therapy with compassion, structure, and a strong belief in each person's capacity to heal. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a foundation, I help clients explore the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to develop healthier coping strategies and lasting change.

My work is also grounded in a trauma-focused approach. I recognize how past experiences can shape present struggles, and I aim to create a safe, supportive space where clients can process trauma at their own pace. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or unresolved trauma, we will work together to build emotional resilience and restore a sense of control and well-being.

I tailor therapy to your individual needs, blending evidence-based techniques with empathy, insight, and collaboration. My goal is to help you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and self-compassion.

What you can expect from me

Clients often leave sessions with:

  • Practical tools to manage stress, anxiety, and overwhelming emotions
  • Greater self-awareness and understanding of personal patterns and triggers
  • Improved communication skills for healthier relationships
  • Stronger boundaries and confidence in saying “no” without guilt
  • Emotional healing from past trauma, grief, or life transitions
  • A safe, judgment-free space to explore identity, purpose, and self-worth

Whether you're a parent helping your child cope, a teen struggling to find your place, or an adult seeking peace and clarity, you'll walk away feeling heard, empowered, and equipped to move forward.
