Great to meet you!

Hello and welcome! My name is Kimberly Roelands, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate life’s challenges. With over a decade of experience, I provide compassionate, clinical interventions for children, adolescents, adults, and families.

My practice is deeply rooted in cultural humility, and I have extensive experience serving individuals from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. My background includes years of meaningful work within the public school system as a school counselor, student support specialist and wellness coordinator. I have spent several years specializing in telehealth-based psychotherapy, making mental health support accessible and convenient.

Whether you or your loved ones are navigating major transitions, managing daily stressors, or seeking a safe space to heal, I am here to collaborate with you on your journey.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based, collaborative, and structured framework designed to help you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact to influence your emotional well-being.

The foundation of this approach relies on a collaborative, problem-focused partnership where we actively work together to address your current difficulties. Rather than focusing indefinitely on the past, we target the specific, real-time challenges causing you distress.

What you can expect from me

During your first therapy session, you can expect a structured, guided conversation focused on building a solid foundation of safety, transparency, and a mutual understanding of your goals.

Here is exactly how we will break down our first hour together:

  • Confidentiality & Rights: We will begin by reviewing your rights and discussing the strict limits of confidentiality. It is important to me that you understand exactly what information stays private and the rare clinical conditions under which that privacy cannot be maintained.
  • Current Stressors: Next, we will transition into discussing your primary reasons for seeking therapy right now, as well as any specific symptoms or immediate stressors you are experiencing.
  • Background & History: To capture the whole picture, we will gently explore relevant background information. This includes your mental health history, current support systems, coping skills, and important aspects of your family or medical history.
  • Looking Forward: We will close by discussing your short- and long-term hopes for treatment. I will also outline my therapeutic modalities and communication styles to make sure our approach is tailored specifically to your personality.

Please remember that there is no "right" way to show up for this appointment. It is entirely normal to feel anxious or nervous beforehand, and it is equally common to experience some emotional fatigue afterward. We will move entirely at your pace.
