Great to meet you!

Hi! My name is Kim Root. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Kentucky. I have experience working for small private mental health practices in rural, urban and suburban parts of KY and I genuinely enjoy meeting clients from all over the state. I have a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Spalding University in Louisville, KY. I specialize in treating acute and chronic trauma, life transitions, anxiety and stress. I am currently able to see adolescents and adults via telehealth and I like to offer a special welcome to LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent individuals and other marginalized communities.

My approach to therapy

My approach is humanistic, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own experience. I like to meet client’s where they are with the approaches that make sense for them. Some modalities I utilize are EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Person-Centered therapy, as well as expressive, play, mindfulness and body-based approaches that support nervous system healing. Therapy doesn’t have to be about endlessly retelling painful stories. It’s about helping your system feel safer, building practical tools, and creating lasting internal change.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, we will begin to get to know each other and establish a safe therapeutic environment. I will invite you to ask me anything about my approach or answer any general questions you have about therapy. We will discuss what brought you to therapy at this moment and we will work together to establish goals for therapy.
