Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Kirsten Doan, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and the founder of Black Couch Therapy. I offer a supportive, grounded space where individuals can explore life transitions, relationships, and emotional challenges with care and curiosity. Therapy here isn’t about fixing yourself—it’s about understanding your experiences and reconnecting with your strengths. My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and centered on helping you move forward in a way that feels authentic to you.

My approach to therapy

Welcome to Black Couch Therapy. We offer affirming, compassionate mental health services for individuals (ages 16–65+) and small families navigating life transitions and identity development. Whether you’re transitioning into adulthood, parenthood, a new career, or redefining yourself in a new season of life, we provide a supportive space to explore growth and change. Our client-centered, culturally responsive approach integrates evidence-based modalities—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy—tailored to your unique needs. Sessions are available both in person and online, because you don’t have to navigate life’s transitions alone.

What you can expect from me

Your First Session at Black Couch Therapy

Your first session is a space to slow down, settle in, and begin building a sense of safety and connection. We’ll focus on getting to know you—your story, what’s been weighing on you, and what led you to seek therapy—at a pace that feels right for you. The conversation is gentle and open, guided by your needs and goals. This session lays the foundation for our work together and the personalized growth we’ll continue to build.
