Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Kristen. I'm a licensed professional clinical counselor and a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor in Ohio, which means I can work with your mental health and your substance use together instead of sending you to two different people. I've spent thirteen years in community mental health and private practice, and most of what I see is some version of that overlap: anxiety, depression, or old trauma sitting right alongside drinking, using, or a recovery that keeps stalling out. I see adults across Ohio by telehealth. Whoever you are and however you got here, you won't have to explain yourself twice.

My approach to therapy

Therapy with me is collaborative. I'm not going to hand you a plan and expect you to follow it. We'll figure out together what's actually driving things and what would genuinely help. Depending on what you bring, I draw on CBT, DBT, EMDR for trauma, and motivational interviewing, and I meet you where you are on substance use rather than requiring you to have already decided about it. I'm affirming of LGBTQIA+ clients in practice, not just in principle.

What you can expect from me

The first session is a conversation, not an intake interrogation. I'll ask what brought you in now, what you've already tried, and what you'd want to be different. If substance use is part of the picture, we'll talk about it plainly. I'm not going to react, and you don't need to have anything figured out first. By the end, we'll have a sense of where to start and whether I'm the right fit. If I'm not, I'll say so and help you find someone who is.
