A bit about my approach to therapy

TREATMENT FOCUS

I take an integrated approach to counseling using client-centered, cognitive-behavioral, solution focused, contingency management, and motivational interviewing modalities. One of the most common goals of therapy is to modify problematic patterns of thinking and behavior in an effort to create positive change in our lives. By improving the manner in which we internalize ideas and react to our world, we are often able to positively affect the way we feel and live.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT COUNSELING

Seeking professional counseling will provide you with the opportunity to gain more insight and awareness. It can sometimes feel uncomfortable to take the first step in reaching out but discovering hope on the other end will make this first step worthwhile. Let me explain:

Messages have meaning – especially those that swirl in our brains and have been ingrained in us over time. They can be like stowaways that hide in our minds and burden us throughout our lives.

These messages can be positive, but other times they are damaging and can undermine our intensions - sabotaging our lives.

Some messages erode our self-worth and lie to us about who we are. Seeking professional counseling can help you identify who you really are and assist you in learning to identify and remedy problematic areas of your life. Then, you are able to discover how to best address and remedy these areas which leads to a happier, more peaceful, and satisfying life – a life you find fulfilling and overflowing with meaning.

What you can expect from our first session

PATIENT PROMISE

As a therapist, it is my job to remain open and nonjudgmental and this is my promise to you. I recognize that there are multiple paths towards healing and wholeness. You are unique and your path will also be unique. For this reason, I do not assume any certain path is right for you – your path will be a collaborative endeavor that will provide us the opportunity to decide how to move forward in a way that will be the most beneficial for you.

ONE FINAL WORD

We, as a society have found ourselves in a very difficult time. There is so much polarity and division within our culture that it can feel almost impossible to navigate.

Here is my commitment to you:

Whatever your beliefs, whether religious/spiritual, political, societal, cultural, or otherwise, I will extend you autonomy without judgement.

I will not push my beliefs on you, preach to you, attempt to indoctrinate you, or shame you for your beliefs. You have the right to believe what you choose to believe, and you deserve the freedom to have your beliefs respected.

(There is one exception to this commitment which is my duty to address any belief(s) that may cause harm to you or another person such as suspected child or dependent adult abuse. This duty does not extend to include being offended by another person's beliefs or others being offended by your beliefs.)
