Great to meet you!

Hey! My name is Kyle (he/him) and I am an immunocompromised, Japanese, Latvian American. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NY and trained to work with kids, teens, families, adults. I was most recently working in a college counseling center. I am also an organizer in my local community and college professor teaching classes about mental health and emotional wellness. I enjoy being creative, going on walks and runs, making music, writing articles, advocacy, spending time with my partner and pup, and will likely be listening to hip hop and lofi between sessions.

My approach to therapy

I believe counseling is about feeling accepted, understood, and supported. Different approaches are needed for different people, and I use approaches such as Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, and approaches that center social justice. While I work with people directly, I understand that people exist in systems that often do not meet their needs and cause challenges. I enjoy supportive and healing conversations with the people I work with and also work to advocate for better systems outside of our sessions. I hope the people I work with feel accepted, supported, more connected, and empowered.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, I will get an idea of what you are experiencing, the bigger picture and background information, and discuss how I can be the most helpful to you in your process. I'll have some questions I like to ask and will also make space for you to talk about what is more important to you in that meeting. You can ask any questions that will help you feel comfortable, and I hope you leave the first session feeling understood and with an idea of what comes next.
