Great to meet you!

I help people who feel broken and defeated by their substance use disorder and who may have had serious consequences from their habitual drug or alcohol misuse and related behaviors such as secrecy, isolation, and dishonesty. My role is to encourage you to value your own life and the lives impacted by you. I work with trust, compassion, empathy, and non-judgment as we navigate difficult life circumstances and the change process. The change process is hard, especially when you might only know, today, the negative aspects of your life and behaviors. I am there to be that constant in your life, to open your mind, to see your value and to not give up on the idea that you can change, to be loved and respected. I will guide you to build back your self-worth and dignity. As a person who's been through challenges and has overcome those challenges, I can truly empathize on a deeper level.

My approach to therapy

My approach is to meet people where they are in their journey of substance use disorder treatment and recovery, offering compassion, understanding, and support tailored to their individual needs. I am grounded in Carl Rogers’ concept of positive regard, particularly unconditional positive regard, which emphasizes accepting and valuing each person without judgment or conditions. This client-centered philosophy allows me to offer genuine warmth, respect, and acceptance, regardless of a person’s thoughts, feelings, or behaviors.

Drawing on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing, I help individuals recognize their strengths, build self-worth, and challenge negative self-talk. Together, we explore behaviors that may feel overwhelming or out of control and identify practical strategies for creating healthier patterns of thinking and living. Through education, encouragement, and consistent practice, clients can begin to replace unhelpful habits with healthier coping skills and lifestyle changes. I also encourage individuals to challenge themselves by taking small, manageable steps toward meaningful and lasting change.

What you can expect from me

Sessions may include educational reading materials, recovery-focused writing, and worksheets to support personal reflection and growth. I also provide education about various mutual-help and recovery support groups, including Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Dharma Recovery, and Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART Recovery). Exploring these resources and attending meetings can help individuals build connections, strengthen their recovery, and develop additional sources of support. First session will be getting comfortable and building rapport, reviewing confidentiality and its limits, exploring substance use history and related behaviors, discussing what is happening beneath the substance use, and identifying goals and next steps.
