Great to meet you!

I have had the unique experience of living in and traveling to different parts of the USA and the world. As a result, I have interacted with(in) different cultures, individuals, and situations/circumstances in various parts of the world that have challenged me to embrace others in a way that allows me to have a level of empathy and compassion that contributes to my effectiveness as a clinician.

Goal-setting has always been a staple in my life, and it lends itself very well to my work with clients. I have the degrees (Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology), licenses (Virginia, District of Columbia, Wisconsin, and the United Kingdom), and work experience (20+years, including the last 10 years in DC and VA) that would be expected for a psychologist. I also have the drive, determination, and motivation to help others attain their goals, and work towards an enhanced well-being.

I work with adults to address issues related to anxiety, adjustment, depression, focus/concentration/time management, identity (including athlete identity), expatriation/repatriation, managing interpersonal conflict, and grief.

My approach to therapy

I primarily draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to work with individuals to examine their thought processes, and the impact of those thought processes on their emotions, behaviors, and subsequent decision-making. Within this, the client is seen as the “expert,” and the therapist is a facilitator in the process of identifying strengths for the client to build upon for self-improvement. I incorporate a direct-yet-compassionate approach to helping clients make progress towards becoming their best selves.

What you can expect from me

The availability displayed is for scheduling an initial phone consultation to evaluate therapeutic fit/compatibility. If deemed appropriate, the first therapy session will be scheduled following this consultation. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to email me at [email protected].

The first session (which is typically 50-55 minutes) tends to focus on gathering of information about the client's background as it relates to the presenting concern, and identifying the focus of therapy and subsequent goals for treatment.
