Great to meet you!

Lakeya Mitchell, originally from Tampa, FL, considers Savannah, GA, her home. She is a proud graduate of Johnson High School and Savannah State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. Lakeya went on to receive a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from South University.

A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Lakeya is the owner of Transfigurations Counseling LLC and holds LPC licenses in Georgia, Texas, and South Carolina. In 2022, she was named one of the best counselors in Savannah, GA—a recognition she has earned twice. In addition to her work with Transfigurations Counseling, she serves as the Behavioral Health Program Manager for Fetter Health Care, overseeing two locations in Summerville and Walterboro, South Carolina.

Lakeya is certified in crisis intervention and suicide prevention, having served as a Suicide Counselor for eight years. She also has extensive experience in HIV and Sexually Transmitted Disease education and prevention. With a comprehensive background in behavioral health, Lakeya specializes in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), trauma, anxiety, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for pain management, and depression.

A passionate advocate for mental health, Lakeya is dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health care and promoting emotional and psychological well-being. She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and believes deeply in giving back to her community.

Lakeya’s faith is a central part of her life. Lakeya enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching movies, and having fun. However, her greatest passion remains worship and prayer, which continue to be a source of strength and joy in her life.

My approach to therapy

Lakeya believes therapy is a journey—one where she walks alongside her clients through the complexities of life. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps clients understand how our thoughts drive our actions, rather than focusing solely on what we do. By addressing the thought patterns that influence behavior, Lakeya empowers her clients to make lasting changes and gain a deeper understanding of themselves.

What you can expect from me

She is dedicated to providing a transformative experience for each client facing challenges such as trauma, addiction, anxiety, abuse, depression, PTSD, marital issues, and family difficulties. Passionate about promoting self-love, her ultimate goal is to help break the stigma surrounding mental health and foster holistic healing.
