Great to meet you!

I'm Lara Durand, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 16 years of experience and two master's degrees, one in Psychoanalysis and one in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I was born in Mexico and bring both the depth of analytic theory and the grounded practicality of real life into my work. I'm also a certified nutrition therapy practitioner, so I pay attention to the connection between the body and mental health, not just what's happening in your mind. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, major life transitions, identity shifts, and the kind of stress that builds up quietly over time. I offer sessions in both English and Spanish.

My approach to therapy

My approach is relational at its core. I believe real change happens through the therapeutic relationship itself, not just the techniques or the insights, but what unfolds between us in the room. I draw from psychoanalytic and psychodynamic frameworks, which means we pay attention to patterns, history, and the things that often go unsaid. I follow your lead, work with what comes up organically, and create space for your own wisdom to surface. I integrate motivational interviewing and, when it fits, a lens around nutrition and body-based wellness.

What you can expect from me

The first session is about getting to know each other. I want to understand what's bringing you in, what you've tried before, and what you're hoping for, without pressure to have it all figured out. I'll ask questions, listen closely, and give you space to share at whatever pace feels right. My goal is for you to leave feeling genuinely heard and with a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. I bring warmth and directness to every session, so expect honesty alongside care.
