Great to meet you!

I've been a Clinical Psychologist for over 25 years. Along with treating depression, anxiety and OCD, my private practice also focuses on treating childhood trauma and addiction or compulsive/problematic behaviors. Many of my clients also struggle with attachment in romantic or other relationships. I have undergone extensive training and have obtained several certifications in treating trauma and addiction. I have worked with many of the experts in this area of trauma and addiction, mainly folks suffering from sex or love addiction (or avoidance). I am very passionate about helping those who struggle with mood disorders, early trauma, addictive behaviors and/or those who struggle with attachment and relationships.

My approach to therapy

I love my work. As an experienced therapist, my approach has changed a bit. I utilize several therapeutic 'tools' which help my client to decrease unhealthy relationship behaviors and increase healthy attachment try with others and increase self-acceptance and self-worth. To that end, I encourage my clients to try different behaviors. We 'act our way into right thinking', which eventually results in feeling happier, more 'safe and secure' and joyful. I will help you1) define and understand what the problematic behaviors or emotions are 2) help you find real solutions and 3) will continue to support you through the inevitable blocks that often come up during the work to achieve your goals.

What you can expect from me

Clients first coming to work with me will experience my asking you a lot of questions! The more I understand about you, your life experiences and your current life issues, work, relationships, etc.. the better I can help you identify the factors that are creating or maintaining your painful emotions or troubling behaviors that decrease your life satisfaction. I am an "active" therapist in that I don't just reflect your feelings back to you. I am also empathic and warm. I constantly evaluate my client's well-being and goals. If something isn't working, we move forward finding solution-oriented interventions to get you to meet your treatment goals. Sometimes clients come to therapy to simply explore their past or a difficult situation but don't want (or need) a lot of suggestions about anything they might need to do. I am happy to work with a client in this way as well.
