Great to meet you!

After 35 years as a clinical psychologist, one thing I've learned is that everyone has a story, and understanding yours is where our work begins. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of helping people navigate some of life's most difficult challenges, from anxiety and depression to trauma, PTSD, ADHD, and major life changes. My experience includes working in military medical settings, state hospitals, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I've supported individuals from many different backgrounds and walks of life. These experiences have shaped my belief that effective therapy requires both clinical expertise and a genuine understanding of the person behind the symptoms. I bring a warm, straightforward, and practical approach to our conversations. My goal is to help you feel understood, gain a clearer perspective on what you're experiencing, and develop the skills and confidence to move forward.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy should be grounded in approaches that have been studied, tested, and shown to help people make meaningful improvements in their lives. My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps us understand how our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another and identify practical ways to create change. I also have training in other evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD, allowing me to tailor our work to your individual needs. With decades of experience treating a wide range of psychological concerns, I recognize that no single approach is right for everyone. We'll work together to understand what's contributing to your difficulties, establish realistic goals, and identify strategies you can use beyond our sessions. I want our work to be collaborative, focused, and genuinely useful in your everyday life.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is a chance for us to get acquainted, talk about what brings you to therapy, and begin figuring out how I can best help. I'll ask questions to better understand your concerns, your experiences, and what you would like to accomplish. Just as importantly, I want to hear your perspective on what has and hasn't worked for you in the past. Together, we'll begin developing a treatment plan that reflects your goals and gives us a clear direction for our work. I welcome your questions and will do my best to answer them honestly and directly, so you know what to expect throughout the process. You don't need to have everything figured out before we meet. We'll start with where you are and work together to determine the next steps.
