Great to meet you!

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 30 years of experience working with individuals, families, students, professionals, and organizations. I earned my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree and have spent much of my career helping people navigate challenges, recognize their strengths, make meaningful changes, and move toward healthier and more fulfilling lives. In addition to my clinical background, I have spent many years in higher education and executive leadership. That experience has given me a unique perspective on stress, relationships, career and life transitions, leadership pressures, family responsibilities, and the challenge of maintaining balance when others depend on you. I understand that people often come to therapy not because something is fundamentally “wrong” with them, but because life has become complicated, difficult, or simply different from what they expected. My approach is warm, practical, collaborative, and straightforward. I believe therapy should be a place where you can speak honestly, feel understood, gain greater insight into yourself, and develop strategies that actually translate into your everyday life. I value both reflection and action—understanding where patterns come from while also helping clients determine what they want to do differently moving forward. Faith has also been an important part of my own life. For clients who desire it, I am comfortable integrating Christian faith and spiritual perspectives into the therapeutic process. At the same time, I respect each person's individual beliefs, experiences, and values, and therapy is always centered on the needs and goals of the client.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, practical, and tailored to the individual. I do not believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to helping people. Each person brings a different history, set of strengths, relationships, values, and life experiences into the room, so I work to understand the whole person rather than simply focusing on a diagnosis or presenting problem. My style is warm, conversational, and straightforward. I believe insight is important, but therapy should also help you make meaningful changes in your everyday life. Together, we may explore patterns in your thinking, emotions, relationships, and past experiences while also identifying practical strategies for managing current challenges and moving toward the life you want. am particularly interested in working with adults navigating life transitions, relationship and family concerns, stress, anxiety, personal growth, career and leadership pressures, and questions of identity, meaning, and purpose. My years as both a psychologist and an executive leader have also given me a unique appreciation for the pressures experienced by professionals and leaders who may be accustomed to supporting everyone else while having few places where they can simply be themselves. When appropriate, I draw from cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, insight-oriented, and relational approaches, depending upon the needs and goals of the client. I tend to focus not only on what is difficult, but also on the strengths, resilience, relationships, and resources a person can build upon. For clients who desire it, I also offer the opportunity to thoughtfully integrate Christian faith into therapy. Faith can provide an important framework for understanding purpose, relationships, forgiveness, hope, and personal growth. This is always guided by the client's preferences and never imposed.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, my goal is to create a comfortable, respectful environment where you can begin talking openly about what brought you to therapy and what you hope might be different as a result of our work together. I do not expect you to have everything figured out before you arrive. We will take time to understand what is happening in your life, the concerns that feel most important, and the strengths and resources you already bring with you. I may ask questions about your background, relationships, current stressors, and previous experiences with counseling, but the conversation is collaborative and moves at a pace that feels appropriate for you. By the end of our first meeting, I hope you have a clearer sense of what we might work on together, what your goals could look like, and whether you feel comfortable with me as your therapist. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship matters, so I want you to feel heard, respected, and able to be yourself. Whenever possible, I also like clients to leave the first session with something useful—a new perspective, a question to reflect on, or a practical next step. For clients who would like faith to be part of the process, we can also discuss how Christian beliefs and spiritual resources might appropriately support their goals.
