Great to meet you!

My name is Latoya Lopez, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in anxiety, anger management, and self-esteem challenges in children and adolescents. I am passionate about helping young clients and their families build emotional resilience, confidence, and healthy coping skills.

I hold a Doctorate in Education and a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential, which allows me to deeply understand the academic, social, and emotional needs of children and teens. My professional experience spans a variety of settings, including teen homeless shelters, adult transitional mental health homes, private practice, community-based foster youth programs, and school systems.

Through my work with children, teens, adults, and families, I’ve developed a well-rounded and compassionate approach to therapy. I am especially skilled in supporting youth experiencing anxiety, behavioral challenges, low self-esteem, and life transitions, while also guiding parents and families in strengthening communication and connection.

If you’re looking for a therapist who understands both the emotional and environmental factors impacting your child or family, I strive to create a supportive space where growth and healing can happen.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, goal-oriented, and tailored to each client’s unique needs. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based approach that helps clients understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This is especially effective for managing anxiety, improving emotional regulation, and building healthier thinking patterns.

I also incorporate Solution-Focused Therapy, which emphasizes your strengths and helps you move toward practical, achievable goals. Together, we focus on what’s working, build on your existing skills, and create meaningful, lasting change.

When working with children and teens, I adapt these approaches in developmentally appropriate ways to ensure they feel engaged, understood, and empowered throughout the process.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, you can expect a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free environment where you feel heard and understood. We will explore your primary concerns, discuss how they are impacting your daily life, and begin identifying your goals for therapy.

Together, we will create a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your needs and desired outcomes. Whether you are seeking support for your child, yourself, or your family, I will meet you where you are and help guide you toward meaningful progress.

You can also expect a balance of compassion and gentle challenge—providing you with a safe space to express your thoughts and emotions, while also helping you build the tools and confidence needed to create lasting, positive change.
