Great to meet you!

Feeling stressed, overwhelmed or anxious about life? Let's work together to create positive change!

I'm Laura Chamberlin, a licensed professional clinical counselor, board-certified art therapist and nationally certified clinical counselor. I earned my BA in Visual art with a minor in Psychology from Seattle University and an MA in Psychology, Clinical Counseling and Art Therapy from Antioch University Seattle. I love collaborating with clients to help them grow into their best self. My clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents and families in residential facilities, psychiatric hospitals, Children's Hospitals and outpatient in private practice. My work has focused on teaching healthy coping skills and body awareness to reduce stress and anxiety, increase self-esteem, improve self-regulation and teach healthy self-expression of feelings.

Also, I enjoy my contract work with Gilda's Club Kentuckiana supporting cancer survivors and their loved ones. My personal hobbies include crocheting, sewing and antiquing!

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic style is nurturing, validating, compassionate and strengths based. I will gently challenge you to connect more with yourself and others through self- reflective techniques, practical strategies and art therapy. I use evidence-based techniques and approaches from CBT, mindfulness, attachment focused and client centered therapies. I work hard to provide deep active listening, creative thinking and kindness. I help clients improve personal coping skills and healthy self-expression while building better awareness of mind and body. I focus on helping children and teens feel more confident, centered and comfortable in who they are. I also provide psychoeducation about feelings to normalize shared human struggles and encourage open discussion.

What you can expect from me

During our first session I will describe my role as therapist and the purpose of therapy. We will work together to identify goals that address presenting concerns and symptoms. In addition, I will ask about hopes for treatment. I encourage patients to have a willingness to try new activities and interventions that will lead to positive change, more connection and better communication. I will clearly share the limits of confidentiality, boundaries and expectations for working together. I may also invite you to create a safety plan for when difficult situations or stressful moments arise.

All sessions will be fifty to sixty minutes in length and will be focused on achieving your specific goals and hopes. I will start taking new clients via telehealth through Headway in the beginning of November.
