Great to meet you!

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I am systemically trained. I see situations through the lens of family, relationships and community.

I like to cover all the bases, taking a holistic approach to solving an issue. I am open to helping all people reach their goals and potential, being patient in helping clients practice new skills. I can be direct and kind at the same time, helping people to access their innate strengths. I am extensively trained in mediation, divorce resolution, EMDR, and will help engage a couple in talking about the difficult subjects, like money and intimacy.

My approach to therapy

Depending on the issue, I work to find the right solutions for the issue. If it is anxiety for example, relaxation strategies might be useful, but EMDR might also be helpful, if there are triggers, that keep occurring. I can propose a course of action, and I do give homework, so that the therapy can be carried into real life. I want people to begin to feel better and with collaboration, the client participates on an equal basis.

What you can expect from me

The first session is an introduction for both the therapist and the client. I try to start with the family of origin and ask some questions about family dynamics, and what the client learned by being in their family of origin. I also want to know what the client would like to have happen in therapy, if this is their first encounter with therapy or they have gone to other therapists. What worked and what did not work. I always ask at end of session if they feel comfortable in returning for another session. I stress honesty from my clients. I want them to feel safe and say what they need to.
