Laura Karnes

I am a native of Michigan and have lived in Colorado since 2011. Over my lifetime I have lived in San Francisco, CA, Austin TX, Baltimore, MD, Yellow Springs, OH and in Oaxaca, Mexico and Grenada. With this I bring diverse experiences with many different cultures and communities and practice non-judgement and unconditional positive regards and primary tenants for my practice.

I am in my early 40's and have worked for 16 years as a counselor in various capacities. I began working in substance abuse & with 12-step programs in 2009 and then worked in schools for 12 years after switching into private practice.

I help people to gain awareness to struggles and ges actualizing their authentic self, making manifest their passions and strengths on a path tyowards healing and wholeness.

I offer practical solutions and tools and help to reframe fearful thinking, accommodate personal challenges and needs and to empowered perspectives, offering growth and change with maximum empathy!

Counseling is a path of gaining self-awareness into our strengths and learning how to apply those so that we feel more actualized. I use trauma-informed approach to assist people in understanding how stressors affect and impact life. I help clients learn proper tools to assist in accommodating needs and developing skills that set one up for success in relationships, career and quality of life.

I help others to find balance with moods, fears, anxiety and struggles, be in relationship or with the past or even finding a new career!

I help develop strategies and solutions support diversity of experience and fluidity of gender. I practice unconditional positive regard and radical acceptance. I believe that the journey towards healing is one of self-awareness. It is spreading grace and compassion to parts of our "shadow" or the unseen corners; healing the inner child, illuminating one's strengths, while actualizing parts of self in need of validation and support.

Clients will have practical tools to use to assist in navigating life stressors. Clients will have increased self-awareness and ability to access resources to heal themselves. Clients will have increased awareness of self-concept, character strengths, defects of character and personal strengths that manifest into self-actualization and empowerment within the intricate tapestry we call Life.
