Hi there! My background is in addiction therapy, working with members of the LGBQT+ population and individuals who have experienced therapy. I have worked in jails, prisons, reentry programs, in patient addiction treatment, HIV counseling, child advocacy centers and private practice where I bring a little mix of all of my experiences together! I went to The University of Alabama for undergrad (Roll Tide) and The University of Florida for my graduate school (Go Gators!).
I utilize a very person centered approach to therapy, creating a supportive and healthy therapeutic relationship is always my first priority no matter what a client is coming in for. Making sure there is trust, connection and empowerment is key for when necessary challenges are to be made. I will use inner child work, parts work and motivational interviewing as well depending on what seems to be needed for the client. I am not the type of therapist to utilize CBT, give you a bunch of worksheets or just sit and take notes during our sessions. I am a human just like you and like to bring that authenticity to our sessions to make them feel more connecting and comfortable.
The first session with me is crucial, this is where the relationship building first begins! I will give you the outline of what to expect with me as your therapist and then ask you to share whatever you feel comfortable with, I am able to meet my clients where they are at. If they need more guidance and direction to answer questions to help share about themselves I can do that, but can also let them lead and share whatever they are ready to! We can start building some outlines of goals but we don't have to have it all figured out in the first session, it is a process!
