Great to meet you!

I received my bachelor's from Central College in Iowa during which time I completed an internship with a psychiatric medical institute for children, Orchard Place. I enjoyed my time there so much that I turned it into a full time job after graduation. This experience drove me to pursue my master's degree at The University of Southern Mississippi in counseling psychology. While in school I provided services through our program's free and reduced services clinic for students and the public. I finished my graduate experience with an internship at Pine Grove on the hospital's adult and pediatric psychiatric units. Following completion of my internship, I returned to Iowa to pursue my therapy license and returned to Orchard Place. During my over 8 years at Orchard Place, I treated children ranging in age from 10 to 18 years old and their families. I honed my skills in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, family issues, Autism, ADHD, and anger through the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and Internal Family Systems while maintaining a strengths based approach and an awareness of the impacts of a client's many identities. I was also trained in and utilized Trust Based Relational Intervention skills to help families and children have a healthy and stable relationship. Additionally, I integrated the Sanctuary Model into my clinical work to help families build a better culture in their homes.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is that of curiosity and collaboration. I strive to partner with my clients to best understand the concerns and issues bringing them to therapy to ensure that the modalities I put forth will be the most effective. I am direct and straightforward, which includes challenge my clients when needed while empowering them to make the changes they want to.

What you can expect from me

In the intake appointment, I am working with the client to determine our fit and starting to build rapport. While doing this, I am seeking to understand as much about the client's mental health, family, social, medical, and risk histories as I can to help the client and I to build a plan for treatment and determine which modalities will best match those goals.
