Laurel Fujii

I’m a fourth-generation Japanese American clinical social worker (LCSW) born/raised in the SF Bay Area. I offer in-person sessions in Berkeley/Oakland, and I offer telehealth/video sessions to adults within California. I work with Asian American and mixed-race BIPOC adults, and I specialize in racial trauma, PTSD, intergenerational conflict, career burn out, and identity. My northern light has always been storytelling and amplifying the voices of people who have been historically oppressed, othered, profited off of, and made to feel small.

With warm curiosity and humor, I use a mix of psychodynamic (or depth therapy) and behavioral approaches to address distress and unease. We can learn a lot about ourselves by reflecting on our choices and the people we surround ourselves with. With a psychodynamic approach, we give air time to parts of our lives that we've ignored and kept hidden away. Better understanding ourself and the people we come from can lead to greater confidence, gratitude, and internal stability.

Prior to starting our first session, my clients complete an intake form so I'll have some basic information about them going into our first session. The first session may feel like an interview, as I want to know about anything and everything the client is ready to share. I'll ask about goals in the first few sessions, and I collaboratively work with clients to do this if it's hard to put into words. (What do you want from our time together?) I welcome my client’s feedback and want to know what is and isn’t serving them.
