Dr. Laurene Clossey

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience in the field of mental health. I hold an MSW from Columbia University and a PhD in Social Work from Bryn Mawr College. I also hold a certificate in spiritual direction from Cranaleith. In addition to my clinical practice, I am a full-time professor of social work and an active researcher. My publications focus on the mental health recovery model. I have co-authored a text with a colleague entitled, "Integrative Approaches in Social Work: Incorporating Complementary and Alternative Modalities in Developing Culturally Competent Practice", published by Cognella. I have another forthcoming book co-authored with Dr. DiLauro on the use of Ignatian Spirituality for clinical social work practice, scheduled to be published in the summer of 2028.

My approach to counseling is psychodynamic, focused on supporting clients in gaining personal insight and empowerment. I respect client spirituality and am open minded to spiritual discussion. I strive to create a warm and safe environment, and I value establishing strong therapeutic relationships with clients.

It is my hope that clients can take away a greater self-understanding, more compassion for themselves, and sense of empowerment and inner strength.
