Great to meet you!

Taking the step to enter therapy requires courage, and you deserve a partner who truly listens. I am Laurie Engel, a dually licensed therapist and clinical leader with more than 25 years of experience helping individuals and couples transform their lives. My background bridges clinical psychology and social work, but my approach is uniquely action-oriented. I completed three years of intensive, advanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Because of this specialized training, I don’t just offer an empathetic ear—I provide real solutions and practical strategies to manage overwhelming anxiety and stress starting from your very first session.

My independent practice is built on a foundation of exceptional trust, which has allowed me to sustain long-term, continuous relationships with a core caseload of clients over many years. I specialize in helping individuals and couples navigate:

  • Major life transitions
  • Persistent anxiety and excessive worry
  • Mood disorders
  • Relationship challenges
  • The unique stress of loving someone with a substance use disorder
  • The profound psychological impacts of grief, loss, chronic pain, and chronic medical issues

My approach to therapy

You will find that my therapeutic style blends proven, evidence-based science with authentic human warmth. While we will focus on concrete strategies to break unhelpful thought patterns and solve real-world problems, we will also use shared laughter to lighten the heavy spaces and build your natural resilience. In my practice, you are never just a diagnosis. You are a whole person who will be deeply listened to, respected, and equipped with the actual tools you need to move forward.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a warm, collaborative, and entirely judgment-free space designed to give you immediate relief and direction. We will focus on two major goals:

  • Being Deeply Heard: We will explore what brought you to therapy, look at the immediate stress or life transitions you are facing, and discuss exactly how you want your life to change.
  • Real Strategies from Day One: Because of my advanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) background, you will not leave our first meeting empty-handed. We will pinpoint at least one concrete tool or perspective you can put into practice right away to manage anxiety, excessive worry, or relationship pain.

By the end of our first 50 minutes, you will have a clear, personalized roadmap for our work together, a sense of relief, and actionable steps to help you move forward.
