Great to meet you!

I'm Larry Lawler, LCSW, and I bring decades of experience in mental health to my practice. After a long career that included running a 190-bed inpatient psychiatric facility and working in mental health administration, I've returned to what I love most: direct clinical work with clients. I retired from full-time administrative work in early 2025, but I realized I wanted to stay engaged and continue helping people navigate life's challenges. My colleagues describe me as someone who brings his "A game" to every session, and I hold myself to high ethical and professional standards. I'm licensed in California and offer telehealth sessions, which allows me the flexibility to see clients throughout the state.

My approach to therapy

I specialize in cognitive therapy, particularly cognitive-behavioral approaches for depression and anxiety. I also have specialized training in OCD treatment and have stayed current with evidence-based practices throughout my career. My approach is pragmatic and client-centered—I believe in bringing my full expertise to each session while being honest about fit. If I don't feel I'm the right match for a particular client's needs, I'll be transparent about that and help connect them with someone who is. I work primarily with adults navigating life transitions, anxiety, and depression, and I focus on areas where I can provide the most effective support.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a warm, professional environment where we'll get to know each other and discuss what brings you to therapy. I'll ask about your goals and concerns, and we'll explore whether we're a good fit to work together. I value transparency and building genuine connections with my clients. My practice is part-time and flexible, typically seeing around 5-10 clients weekly, which allows me to give each person my full attention. Sessions are conducted via telehealth, making therapy accessible and convenient. I use evidence-based approaches tailored to your specific needs, and I'm committed to helping you develop practical skills and insights that make a real difference in your life.
