Hi, I'm Lindsay Siddons. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I specialize in working with children and adolescents (age 2 to 18) - I have over 10 years of experience working with this age group.
I work with children/adolescents who are experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, intense feelings, behavioral challenges, difficulties at school, relationship issues, big life changes, and trauma.
My theoretical orientation is Play Therapy. Play Therapy is evidence-based (which means that research has shown it to be effective) and developmentally appropriate for children because it utilizes the natural language of children - play. Children do not express or process their thoughts and feelings verbally like adults do and children do not have the language skills that adults have. Play Therapy lets children communicate through play - toys are their words and play is their language. Play Therapy can also be adapted with working with adolescents.
During my years using Play Therapy, I have seen the remarkable ways that children/adolescents have transformed when given a safe space to communicate through play within a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship. I believe that every child/adolescent wants to grow and heal and when given the opportunity, they will! I work closely with the caregivers/parents because I believe that real change occurs when we all work together as a team.
