Great to meet you!

My name is Lisa Black, and I am a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) in the state of New Jersey, with a strong focus on addiction treatment. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Counseling. With over a decade of experience in the field, I have worked across every level of care—from detox to outpatient services. My background also includes working in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) facilities and supporting individuals with co-occurring disorders, where addiction remains the central concern. My path into the addiction field was not a coincidence. It was shaped by both personal experiences and the painful reality of watching addiction devastate people I care deeply about, as well as entire communities. From Phillipsburg to Denville, New Jersey, I’ve witnessed firsthand the relentless and destructive nature of addiction—how it strips away relationships, marriages, families, jobs, and a sense of hope. These experiences fuel my commitment to helping others break free from its grip...

My approach to therapy

My use of psychological tools to treat addiction are evidence-based and includes Motivational Interviewing, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and strengths-based therapies. In a nutshell, with me you'll learn—or relearn—skills in self-awareness, recognizing internal strengths (positive attributes), self-instruction, planning, problem-solving, and well-practiced behavioral strategies to reduce risk and increase enjoyable sober activities. You'll also develop effective methods for responding to dysfunctional beliefs (about yourself, substances, and your “relationship” with those substances) and make lasting changes by constructing solutions rather than focusing solely on problems....

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect to be in a safe space where they are the most important person in the room—a place free of stigma and judgment, where they are truly free. They will leave with newfound hope for life, a sense of empowerment, and renewed motivation. Clients will gain a deeper understanding of the disease of addiction, develop effective coping skills, and come to realize that they are stronger than the disease wants them to believe. They will also leave with a clear understanding of what a true support system looks like, and what it means to be surrounded by people who genuinely care.....
