Great to meet you!

Lisa Vanderpool is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Texas, working with adult clients statewide in Texas and Florida via telehealth. Her style and approach are well-suited for adults dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, substance issues, obsessive-compulsive (OCD) tendencies, trauma (PTSD), attention issues (AD/HD), anger, relationship issues, parenting issues, educational/career paths and new chapters in life.

Lisa received her BA in Psychology from Florida International University and her MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of the Lake University. Lisa worked for Alternate Family Care in Hollywood, Florida managing a psychiatric residential treatment facility for 10 years and was the Assistant Director for Interfaith Child Development Center in The Woodlands, Texas for 3 years. Lisa has worked or interned at The Woodlands Behavioral Health and Wellness Center, Interfaith Community Clinic, New Dimensions Day Treatment Centers, and The Houston-Galveston Institute.

My approach to therapy

Her communication style is straightforward, personable, supportive, humorous, compassionate, empathetic and kind. Lisa aims to make her clients feel comfortable discussing anything and listens intently for understanding and clarity, without judgment. Lisa honors and respects each client’s unique journey. She offers practical suggestions to reduce anxiety, depression and overthinking, and improve sleep, healthy habits, communication skills, and overall functioning. She also educates clients about what happens in the brain and body during anxiety, and methods they can use to feel calmer and manage anxiety symptoms more successfully. She often recommends insightful documentaries or books for better understanding. She specializes with anxiety, OCD, depression, substance issues, trauma, and healthy boundaries.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, clients can expect to discuss how they have been feeling, what they have been dealing with recently, and answer questions that help Lisa better understand their experiences. The initial session focuses on building a connection, identifying problems in various areas of life, and finding a path forward. Lisa's approach to goal setting involves working together to define what the client wants to accomplish during their time together. This process starts by building trust and comfort, identifying goals, current issues and obstacles, and exploring strengths and areas for improvement. Together, they work to achieve these goals, overcome obstacles, feel better, and navigate life more successfully.
