Great to meet you!

I graduated Cum Laude with a BA in Psychology and minor in Art & Art History from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX (2001); and with Awards of Academic Merit for an MSEd in Mental Health Counseling (2003) and doctorate in Counseling Psychology (2008) from the University of Miami.

My dissertation was on an Expanded Lazarus and Folkman stress appraisal model following traumatic physical injury (2008). I utilized the depressive literature to significantly predict posttraumatic stress symptoms.

I completed an APA-Approved Internship at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System, focusing on residential sexual and combat trauma treatment and geriatric health.

I completed a Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Houston VA, Major Emphasis in Trauma, Minor in Polytrauma. I worked in the Trauma Recovery Program Intensive Outpatient Programs for sexual and combat trauma. I worked on research examining heartrate variability and biofeedback among veterans with PTSD, pain, and mild TBI.

I have knowledge, training, and experience in individual and couples therapy, and I am trained in multiple empirically supported therapies (ESTs). For example:

-Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) through Behavioral Tech, LLC (2013).

-Certified Clinical Trauma Professional level 2 which added training in the neurobiology of trauma and somatic psychotherapy.

-Level III Certification in Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Reproductive Mental Health (IPT-RMH) through the Interpersonal Psychotherapy Institute (2022). I work with role transitions; grief or loss; disputes; and new beginnings.

-Advanced trainings in individual and couples sex therapy, sexual health and sexuality through MSTI.

-Gottman Method of couples therapy (In progress).

-Additionally: CBT; Mindfulness; ACT; STAIR; CPT; MBCT; EFT; Somatic Therapy for complex trauma and other body-based approaches.

My approach to therapy

My approach is to meet people where they are, people from various walks of life and experiences. My clients have told me I listen and I understand them.

When working with Individuals or Couples, I regard them with the utmost respect and dignity. I am grateful they have chosen me as their therapist, for their willingness to open up, and for their talking with me about their concerns so we can help them heal, build, or rebuild their lives, and reach their goals.

Reach out so we can discover if I am a good match to help you make the changes you are looking for. Let's see if we might walk your path together for a while.

I offer free 15-minute consultations.

It is always an honor.

What you can expect from me

I find it important to understand the parts of your life you find or have found joyful and meaningful. I also want to know what makes you want things to be different. I would like to talk about what matters most to you in our first session.

I also have certain responsibilities for us to complete in a first session, such as making sure our forms are complete, completing an initial intake interview, and offering time for you to ask questions. Intake interviews can be lengthy because I ask enough questions to not only identify specific problems that might be happening, but also to develop a case conceptualization of your experience in a way that guides my treatment planning.
