Great to meet you!

Hello, I'm Lucas! I'm a mixed-race, cisgender, gay, covid-conscious, millennial man whose training and work in the field of mental health is grounded in social justice and multiculturalism. After I received my Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from UMass Boston in 2015, I worked with foster youth and their families in California for 4 years. I have been providing outpatient therapy to individuals and couples since I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 2019. I value lifelong learning, openness to new experiences, curiosity about the self and the world, and working to enhance our capacity for compassion for ourselves and others, individually and collectively.

My approach to therapy

I offer structured EMDR therapy with a person-centered and mindfulness-based approach to support people in healing from traumatic or disturbing experiences and unresolved grief by helping them reprocess painful or distressing memories to make the memories feel less intrusive, distracting, and upsetting, and more neutral and "in the past".

I work with adults of all ages and I have specialized experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples as well as with medical professionals.

What you can expect from me

I hope to make my clients feel safe, listened to, and believed, without judgment, from the moment they begin therapy. I ensure their understanding of the therapy process, including the roles and expectations within the therapeutic relationship, information related to diagnosis and treatment, and clinical boundaries, by exploring their beliefs and expectations about therapy with them and answering questions. I aim to help my clients identify and articulate their hopes and goals for therapy and life in general, inventory their needs, and identify potential solutions. I provide information about relevant therapeutic skills, interventions, and resources for clients to use outside of the session to support the changes they wish to see in their lives.
