Great to meet you!

I am Lucy Bategeeza Ddungu, Psy.D. ABPP, a licensed clinical psychologist in Washington DC, board certified in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, and a member of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. I have over a decade of experience providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to children, adolescents, and families. I bring a diverse and global perspective to my work, shaped by my training in the United States and early academic foundation in Uganda, along with extensive experience in military and community healthcare systems. I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology, an APA-accredited program, and a masters degree in clinical psychology from the same institution. I also completed my undergraduate studies in Psychology (BSc in Psychology (major) and Minors: Zoology & Botany) at Makerere University in Uganda.

My approach to therapy

I take a flexible and personalized approach to therapy. This means I choose what works best for each person and their unique needs. I work together with you as a team, making sure you feel respected, supported, and involved every step of the way. I use helpful, proven strategies to build on your strengths, solve problems, and teach skills for managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. For children and teens, I use approaches that fit their age and may include working with parents and families. My goal is to build a strong, trusting relationship and help you develop practical tools to grow, feel more confident, and improve your overall well-being.

What you can expect from me

In our first visit, we will spend time getting to know each other. I will listen to what is bringing you in for therapy and learn about your experiences, feelings, and goals. We will talk about what you would like help with and what you hope to achieve. Together, we will start making a plan that feels right for you. You can expect a kind, safe, and welcoming space where you feel heard and supported. I will also explain how therapy works, answer your questions, and help you feel comfortable with the process moving forward.
