Great to meet you!

Dr. Lydia Bussell is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a diverse educational background and a passion for helping individuals navigate life's challenges and experience emotional, psychological, and spiritual growth.

Dr. Bussell holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion, a Master’s degree in Biblical Counseling from Luther Rice University, a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Professional Counseling from Amridge University.

Her counseling experience encompasses working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and across various stages of life. Her areas of clinical focus include trauma, marital conflict, grief and loss, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), anxiety, and depression.

Dr. Bussell provides a compassionate, supportive, individualized counseling experience that recognizes each person's uniqueness. Her education in both biblical and professional counseling helps her recognize the importance of addressing emotional, psychological, relational, and spiritual concerns when appropriate to the client's needs and values.

Her goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment where individuals can explore challenges, develop healthy coping strategies, strengthen relationships, and work toward meaningful personal growth and healing.

My approach to therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we’ll explore how certain patterns may be affecting your well-being and identify ways to respond to life’s challenges with greater awareness and confidence. My approach is collaborative and supportive. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to help you recognize your strengths, develop practical coping skills, and work toward meaningful change.

What you can expect from me

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel a little nervous or unsure about what to expect. My goal is to make your first session comfortable, welcoming, and pressure-free.

During our first meeting, we’ll take some time to get to know each other and talk about what brings you to therapy. We’ll explore what’s been on your mind, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you hope to gain from our time together.

You don’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. We’ll move at your pace, and you’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. There’s no pressure to have all the answers or to dive into anything before you’re ready.

We’ll also talk about what therapy might look like moving forward, including your goals and how we can work together to support your well-being.
