Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Magda Jackson-Cooper, LICSW. I was born and raised in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, and as the youngest of six children, I learned early on how to navigate a lively household!

I moved to NYC where I earned my Master's in Social Work. Following the destruction of the Twin Towers I visited relatives in the DMV and stayed. I've spent more than 20 years in social work including working with families.

When I'm not working, I love traveling, watching movies, listening to music, and spending time with my daughter. I'm also a proud cat mom to two entertaining feline companions who keep me laughing and on my toes.

I love movies--mostly well made comedies.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy is a collaborative process where you can feel heard, supported, and empowered to create meaningful change. I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, relationship challenges, and self-esteem concerns.

My goal is to provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your experiences, build on your strengths, and develop practical tools to support your well-being.

While therapy often involves discussing difficult topics, I also believe that humor can be a powerful part of the healing process. When appropriate, I incorporate warmth, authenticity, and a little laughter to help create a comfortable environment where meaningful growth can occur.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, we'll spend time getting to know each other. I'll invite you to share what brings you to therapy, discuss your goals, and answer any questions you may have about the process. My goal is to create a comfortable, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to take the next steps in your journey.
