Great to meet you!

Dr. Mahamudun Nabi is a board certified psychiatrist with extensive clinical expertise across multiple areas of psychiatry, academic medicine, and related medical fields. He has recently begun practicing at Cortex Care Psychiatry for a limited number of patients, bringing a depth of expertise shaped by years of work with complex and high-acuity patient populations across New York, Connecticut, Texas, and California.

Before transitioning to private practice, Dr. M. Nabi served as the Regional Chair of the Department of Psychiatry for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Permian Basin Residency Program and as Director of the Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic. In addition to these leadership roles, he provided clinical psychiatric services through TTUHSC, Midland Memorial Hospital, Medical Center Hospital (MCH), and Natchaug Hospital. His work in these settings reflects a broad and sophisticated command of psychiatric evaluation, medication management, collaborative care, and multidisciplinary treatment planning.

Dr. Nabi earned his medical degree from Dhaka Medical College in 2000. He completed his psychiatry residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York, where he trained in diverse, high-intensity clinical environments. He completed a fellowship in psychoanalysis through the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia (PCOP), affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), enhancing his expertise in depth-oriented psychotherapeutic approaches. He further strengthened his clinical foundation through work at Staten Island University Hospital. Throughout his career, he has remained actively involved in teaching, mentorship, and academic development, contributing to the training of residents, fellows, and medical students. Dr. Nabi’s practice is grounded in professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to delivering thoughtful, individualized, and comprehensive psychiatric care.

My approach to therapy

My approach to psychiatric care is patient-centered, collaborative, and grounded in both evidence-based medicine and a deep understanding of each individual’s unique life experience. I believe that effective treatment begins with careful listening and a thorough evaluation, allowing me to understand not only symptoms, but also the broader emotional, psychological, and social factors that contribute to a person’s well-being.

I integrate medication management with psychotherapy-informed care. This allows me to tailor treatment plans that are thoughtful, individualized, and responsive to each patient’s needs.

My work often involves treating conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other mood or stress-related concerns. I have particular experience working with complex and high-acuity cases, where careful assessment and close follow-up are essential.

I view treatment as a partnership. I work closely with my patients to set goals, monitor progress, and make adjustments over time. My aim is to create a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel comfortable discussing their concerns and actively participating in their care.

What you can expect from me

During the first session, my primary goal is to get to know you and understand your concerns in a comprehensive and thoughtful way. We will review your current symptoms, personal and medical history, and any previous treatments, while also exploring the broader context of your life, including stressors, relationships, and goals.

This initial visit is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and share what you are hoping to gain from treatment. Together, we will begin to identify priorities and discuss a personalized plan, which may include medication, psychotherapy-informed strategies, or a combination of approaches.
