Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Malini, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I work with adults, couples, and families (no minors), with a clinical focus on OCD, anxiety disorders, specific phobias, and exposure-based treatment, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

I’m the child of immigrants, with parents from Trinidad, and I identify as Indo-Caribbean. This background deeply informs my work, particularly with South Asian, Indian-Caribbean, and immigrant clients navigating marital pressure, family expectations, gender roles, and cultural identity stress. I understand firsthand how cultural values can shape responsibility, independence, and relationship dynamics, often in ways that are both supportive and challenging.

My approach is direct, warm, and collaborative. I value clarity, practical tools, and honest conversations, and I also believe that therapy doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time. I bring humor and levity into the therapy space when appropriate, helping clients feel more at ease while doing meaningful work.

My approach to therapy

My approach is direct, collaborative, and structured, with a strong focus on helping clients understand how anxiety, OCD, and long-standing family patterns influence their present-day experiences. Clinically, I specialize in OCD, anxiety disorders, and specific phobias, and I am trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD and anxiety-related conditions.

I also bring a culturally informed lens, particularly for South Asian, Indian-Caribbean, and immigrant clients navigating intergenerational expectations, marital pressure, people-pleasing, and hyper-independence. Many clients come in feeling stuck between honoring family values and wanting autonomy in their relationships and life choices.

Therapy with me is active and goal-oriented. We focus on understanding what maintains symptoms, reducing avoidance, and building practical skills that create real change. Healing doesn’t have to be overwhelming or unstructured... it can be thoughtful, intentional, and effective.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect clarity, structure, and direction. The first session focuses on understanding what’s bringing you in, how anxiety or OCD shows up in your daily life, and how family, cultural, or relationship dynamics may be contributing to stress or avoidance.

We’ll talk through patterns, whether that’s anxiety cycles, OCD themes, marital conflict, or pressure from family expectations, and begin outlining a treatment plan that feels realistic and aligned with your goals. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what’s going on and what therapy will actually involve moving forward.

My style is supportive but honest. Sessions are collaborative and practical, with an emphasis on building confidence, skills, and momentum rather than staying stuck in insight alone.
