Mandy Nelson, PMHNP-Board Certified

Upper Country Mental Health – Altamont, UT VIRTUAL AND IN PERSON APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE

I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Masters in Rural Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nursing. I live just outside of Altamont, UT. I have a husband, 4 children, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, and a rabbit. I love animals, and I love people.

As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I provide compassionate, person-centered care to individuals and families across the lifespan—from young children to older adults. I specialize in serving rural communities and understand the unique challenges these populations face, including limited access to care, isolation, and stigma.

I offer support for a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and relationship issues. I use a humanistic and holistic approach that focuses on the whole person, not just symptoms. My therapy style is warm, inquisitive, and collaborative, helping clients feel safe and empowered in their healing journey.

I draw from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma-focused therapy, always tailoring care to the individual’s needs. For those who desire it, I am also happy to integrate a Christian faith-based perspective into therapy.

Whether you’re navigating trauma, mental health diagnoses, or life transitions, I’m here to walk alongside you with care, curiosity, and clinical expertise—either in person in Altamont, or virtually throughout Utah.

My approach to therapy

-I aim to understand each patient’s unique experience and background, creating a nonjudgmental, compassionate environment.

  • -I engage patients in shared decision-making, encouraging autonomy and empowering them in their treatment process.
  • -I consider biological, psychological, and social factors when diagnosing and developing treatment plans.
  • -I may collaborate with primary care providers, therapists, social workers, or support groups to address all facets of a patient’s well-being.

-I use evidence-based guidelines, but adapt them to meet individual patient needs, preferences, and cultural contexts.

  • -My approach may include medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle modification, and psychoeducation, depending on the individual needs of each patient.
  • -I recognize the role of trauma in mental health and ensure that your care avoids re-traumatization.
  • -I respect cultural, spiritual, and socioeconomic factors that shape a person’s experience of illness and healing.
  • value long-term relationships with patients to provide consistent care and better outcomes.
  • -I support patients not just in symptom management, but in building fulfilling, meaningful lives.
