Great to meet you!

In my practice, I see each individual both as unique and as a part of a family system and larger cultural context. I seek to help my client recognize his/her strengths and vulnerabilities that contribute to his or her sense of self and place in the world. My theoretical approaches are chosen to enhance each person’s understanding on the intellectual, emotional, behavioral, and spiritual levels. Learning to recognize and challenge self-defeating thoughts and actions and learning to appreciate and honor the self are part of the therapeutic process I employ. I utilize practices from cognitive behavioral models as well as from the psychodynamic tradition. I work with each client to identify goals of treatment and to assess and revise these as needed. I strive to adhere to the highest ethical standards as outlined by the American Counseling Association, of which I have been a member for 30 years. I consider it an honor to be a therapist and look forward to working with you.

What you can expect from our first session

I expect clients to leave our sessions with a greater understanding of who they are including identifying strengths and needs and strategies to meet these. I hope they can find the balance between expectations and acceptance, of themselves and others. I also expect them to be able to utilize Distress Tolerance skills, recognizing their ability to be resilient.
