Great to meet you!

Hi! I’m Dr. Mari Kawai, a clinical psychologist and behavior analyst in California. I’m passionate about creating a warm, supportive space where you feel understood and empowered to grow. I work with individuals and families across California, helping children, teens, and adults navigate life’s challenges, build meaningful skills, and move toward greater well-being. I specialize in supporting individuals with autism, ADHD, and other developmental differences, as well as individuals coping with anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.

My approach to therapy

Everyone has a unique story and deserves an individualized approach to care. Once we decide to work together, we’ll act as partners in your therapeutic journey. It’s important to me that we communicate openly and that you feel respected and heard throughout our work together. I’ll be there to listen to you, challenge you, and support you along the way.

My approach is holistic, collaborative, and evidence-based, drawing from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also have an extensive background in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

What you can expect from me

Our first session is a chance to get to know each other and set the foundation for your care. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, explore your goals, and discuss what approaches might work best for you or your family. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, supported, and clear on the next steps toward growth and healing.
