Maria Hernandez

Hello! My name is Maria O. Hernandez, LMHC. I have been practicing in the mental health and substance use field for 8+ years. I have worked with children, teens, adults, and geriatrics with different mental health disorders as well as substance use disorders. I personally enjoy discussing/teaching how to communicate effectively with your partner and learn different strategies to cope with life stressors. Most of my clients would describe me as "easy to talk to" and willing to help as much as possible in order to overcome obstacles reported by the client. The purpose of a mental health provider is to assist the client to identify goals and how to achieve them in the most effective way. In my field, I noticed a simple talk and having someone that is willing to listen goes a long way. Forming healthy therapeutic alliances and helping someone is my primary goal. Finding creative and new ways that improve your overall well-being is essential in self-care.

I specialize in the following areas: anger management, substance use, anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, conflict resolution, adjustment disorders, etc. I have worked with different populations in different settings (residential and outpatient) as well as in crisis stabilization unit. Overall, my experience, level of empathy, and understanding of the different types of mental illnesses will assist me in providing the best treatment outcome for my clients.
