My name is Maria Okwor, and I am a Doctoral prepared, double Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner in family and psychiatric mental health in the state of New Jersey. I have worked with various populations, and I specialize in Depression, Anxiety, Insomnia/Sleep Issues, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Mood Disorders.
I very much like a positive and holistic approach. I think it is important to find balance in your life and it starts with improving self-esteem and good self-care. I like a person-centered approach meaning you are in charge; we go at your speed and things should always be comfortable for you.
My clients typically tell me how much better they feel after one session. Rapport building initially! I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable or like they are giving up their past to someone they don't know. I believe in a trust-based relationship and going at your pace as you are comfortable. Mostly, clients tell me they feel like they have chatted with a friend but realize there has been growth in the conversation. To me, that is the way it should be.
