Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Mariela. Whether you’re starting therapy for the first time or returning after some time away, you are welcome here. You deserve a space where you can feel heard, supported, and cared for as you navigate whatever life is bringing your way. As a bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor, I provide that space—a place where you can show up as you are and begin the work of healing, growing, or catching your breath. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University and have experience supporting clients facing trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and major life transitions. My background includes crisis work in domestic violence and sexual abuse centers, supporting caregivers at a Children’s Advocacy Center, and providing trauma-informed therapy in community health settings. These experiences strengthened my belief in the power of therapy to create lasting change. As a first-generation Latina, I understand how intimidating seeking mental health support can feel—especially if therapy hasn’t always seemed accessible or culturally attuned. I approach my work with respect for each person’s story and am committed to care that is inclusive, affirming, and grounded in cultural humility. I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), an evidence-based approach using eye movements and visualization to help process distressing memories. While ART may not be right for everyone, many clients find it helpful for addressing trauma and emotional challenges. My style is collaborative, down-to-earth, and personalized. I believe you are the expert on your life, and my role is to walk alongside you with tools and insight tailored to your needs. Whether you’re working through past pain, navigating a big life change, or simply seeking space to reflect, therapy can be a powerful way to care for yourself. You don’t have to go through it alone—I’m here to support you with care and authenticity.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative and personalized because I believe you are the expert on your own life. I work to create a safe and supportive space where you can feel heard, valued, and empowered to make meaningful changes. I am trauma-informed and trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), evidence-based approaches that help many people process painful or distressing experiences. Together, we will explore tools and strategies that fit your needs, whether you are navigating past trauma, life transitions, or simply seeking space to reflect and grow. My goal is to walk alongside you with care, authenticity, and respect as you take steps toward healing and wellbeing.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, my priority is to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel comfortable sharing at your own pace. We’ll start by getting to know each other and talking about what brought you to therapy, as well as any goals or hopes you may have. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your background, current challenges, and what support looks like for you. This is also a chance for you to ask me questions and get a sense of my style, so you can decide if we’re a good fit. Together, we’ll begin shaping a plan for therapy that feels collaborative, respectful, and aligned with your needs. Above all, the first session is about building trust and setting the foundation for our work together.
