Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Marisa Feliciano-Garcia, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from San Francisco State University and my Master’s degree in Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Massachusetts Global.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families facing challenges related to trauma, anxiety, depression, behavioral concerns, family conflict, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. Much of my work has been with foster and adoptive families, children who have experienced trauma, and parents seeking support with challenging behaviors.

I am certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based treatment that helps strengthen parent-child relationships and improve child behavior. Before becoming a therapist, I also earned certification as a life coach, which continues to influence my work today. While I believe understanding the root of a problem is important, I am also highly focused on helping clients identify practical steps they can take to create meaningful change in their lives.

My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel understood, respected, and empowered to move toward the life they want.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy should be a collaborative process where we work together to identify your goals and create a plan for moving forward. My style is warm, supportive, and solution-focused while also making space to explore the experiences and patterns that may be contributing to current challenges.

I draw heavily from Motivational Interviewing, helping clients resolve ambivalence and strengthen their motivation for change. For parents and children, I utilize Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based approach that strengthens relationships and improves behavior through positive interactions and effective parenting skills.

I also incorporate trauma-informed approaches, including Brainspotting and the Flash Technique, when appropriate. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, parenting challenges, or major life transitions, I strive to help you build insight, develop practical tools, and create lasting change.

What you can expect from me

The first session is all about getting to know your perspective. I’ll spend time understanding what brings you to therapy, how the problem is impacting your life, and what you would like to be different. Together, we’ll identify your goals and begin developing a roadmap for getting there.

I strive to create a relaxed, supportive environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself. While we’ll explore the challenges you’re facing, we’ll also focus on your strengths, resources, and what is already working. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and hopeful about the path forward.
