Great to meet you!

I’m Dr. Marisa Ruehlmann, a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in the mental health of children, adolescents, and adults. I understand that every individual’s experiences and challenges are unique, and I strive to create a warm, supportive environment where patients and families feel heard, understood, and empowered. My approach is developmentally informed, allowing me to distinguish between typical developmental challenges and concerns that may benefit from additional support and treatment.

My approach to therapy

I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management for a range of mental health concerns, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, OCD, autism spectrum disorder, eating disorders, PTSD, and other psychiatric conditions. I earned my medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, completed my adult psychiatry residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and pursued fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Throughout my training and practice, I have emphasized thoughtful, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

What you can expect from me

I believe effective psychiatric treatment goes beyond a diagnosis and requires a collaborative partnership built on trust, understanding, and open communication. I take an individualized approach that may incorporate medication, psychotherapy, behavioral strategies, family support, and collaboration with schools when appropriate. My goal is to develop practical, personalized treatment plans that support long-term well-being and help patients and their families feel confident navigating their mental health journey. I also offer care in both English and Spanish to help patients feel comfortable communicating their needs.
