Great to meet you!

I am a wife, mother, and grandmother, and I come from a long line of career military men. Before becoming a psychologist, I taught young children with special needs. My work with their families inspired me to pursue psychology—I wanted to do more to help.

I earned my Psy.D. in Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. My clinical training includes a practicum at Brooke Army Medical Center (Child and Adolescent Psychological Services), an internship at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, specializing in child psychology and pediatric neuropsychological assessment, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii (Child and Adolescent Psychology).

Although I am highly trained in working with children, I also treat adults. I use evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Play Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I don’t use one approach for every client; instead, I tailor my methods to each person’s needs and goals.

My approach to therapy

Although my training focused largely on children and families, it also included individual adult therapy. I use cognitive-behavioral, family-systems, and solution-focused approaches depending on each client’s needs. Most importantly, I believe that the therapeutic relationship itself is the foundation of meaningful change.

Through collaborative exploration, growth and recovery can develop, and solutions can be discovered. It is essential that you trust your therapist enough to be open and honest—with both your therapist and yourself. If you ever find this difficult, we can work together to understand the reasons and explore possible solutions.

Because many issues addressed in therapy also need attention outside of sessions, I may recommend exercises or reading materials to support your progress between appointments.

What you can expect from me

I typically conduct an initial evaluation lasting two to four sessions. During this time, we can both determine whether I am the best person to provide the services that will help you meet your treatment goals. If we decide to begin psychotherapy, sessions are usually scheduled for 50 minutes every two weeks at a mutually agreed-upon time, although some sessions may be longer or occur more frequently depending on your needs.
