Great to meet you!

I'm Markesha, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and I work with adults who are carrying more than they let on — the anxiety that keeps your mind racing at night, the low mood that's made ordinary days feel heavy, the stress and burnout that built up so gradually you stopped noticing it. Maybe you're navigating conflict in your family or relationship, sitting with questions about who you are, or adjusting to a chronic health condition or diagnosis that's reshaped your daily life.

In our work together I treat anxiety, depression, anger, and chronic stress, and I support clients through family tension, relationship struggles, identity questions, and the cultural and ethnic experiences that often go unspoken in therapy. I also work with adults managing chronic and physical health conditions, end-of-life and grief, and ADHD. Many of the women and clients I see are used to holding everything together for everyone else — and have rarely had space to focus on themselves.

I value each person as an individual. I'm honest, compassionate, and committed to ethical, measurement-based care — which means we track how you're actually doing rather than just hoping things improve. You're the expert on your own life; I bring the clinical tools, and together we build something that fits you.

My approach to therapy

My approach is welcoming, collaborative, and tailored to you — never one-size-fits-all. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is my foundation: together we'll notice the thought patterns and behaviors that keep anxiety, depression, or stress locked in place, and practice concrete skills to shift them. From there I work in an integrative, eclectic style, drawing on the techniques that fit your specific goals and presenting concerns instead of forcing you into a single model.

Early on, we'll spend time understanding what brought you in and what you want to be different. I'll ask questions, listen closely, and help you connect what you're feeling to what's happening in your life. Sessions blend insight and action — we'll make sense of patterns and also leave with practical steps you can use between visits. Because I practice measurement-based care, we'll regularly check what's working and adjust, so therapy stays focused on real progress instead of drifting.

My style is respectful and direct without being cold. I believe people change when they feel genuinely understood and have tools they can actually use — so I aim to be both a steady, nonjudgmental presence and a practical partner in the work.

What you can expect from me

Over time, my clients often describe feeling steadier and more in control — less ruled by anxious thoughts, less weighed down by low mood, and more able to handle stress without it taking over. You can expect to build practical coping skills, communicate more clearly in your relationships and family, and set boundaries that protect your energy. Many people also come to understand themselves more fully — their patterns, their needs, and what genuinely helps.

In our first sessions, expect some information-gathering as we lay a strong foundation; this is how we make sure your care truly fits you. From there, the work becomes more focused on your goals. My hope is that you leave therapy not just feeling better in the moment, but with tools you can carry forward — more confident, more grounded, and more like yourself. If you're ready to take that first step, I'd be glad to work alongside you.
