Great to meet you!

I'm Dr. Marla Curtis, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Texas, and I’m honored to support individuals on their journey toward healing, growth, and self-discovery. As a proud Black woman and mental health professional with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I bring both lived experience and advanced clinical training into the therapy space.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, culturally responsive, and rooted in mutual respect. I’ve had the privilege of working across diverse therapeutic settings, supporting clients from all walks of life—including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, military and veteran communities, and those navigating complex family or identity dynamics. I believe in honoring your story and strengths while using evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, trauma-informed care, and person-centered techniques.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a welcoming, judgment-free space where you can begin to feel heard and understood. We’ll take time to get to know one another, explore what brings you to therapy, and talk about your goals, challenges, and any questions or concerns you may have.

I’ll ask about your history, current concerns, and what support looks like for you at a pace that feels comfortable and respectful of your boundaries. You’ll also learn more about my therapeutic approach, how we’ll work together, and what ongoing support could look like.

This session is about building trust and safety. You don’t have to have it all figured out—we’ll create a collaborative plan that aligns with your needs, values, and readiness. My goal is for you to leave feeling seen, empowered, and a little more hopeful about what’s ahead.
