Marquita Thomas-Buchanan

Hi, I'm Marquita. I have been a social worker for over 15 years. I have worked with children and families, dialysis patients, and clients like yourself who are just trying to navigate life in a way that best serves them. I attended school in my home state of Alabama at Jacksonville State University and The University of Alabama. I work with clients with all sorts of complex issues and backgrounds, but I tend to see many clients from the LGBTQIA community and who are of the African diaspora.

I use Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, Solution Focused, Mindfulness and Relaxation techniques and many others. I'm very informal and let my clients take control of their sessions and help them navigate the situation they wish wish to discuss.

In the very first session, I work with my client to identify goals they wish to achieve in therapy. It's very important that my client identify their goals and not me. If they want to reduce their anxiety symptoms, then that will be our goal and we will check in to see how we are doing to meet that goal throughout our sessions.
