Great to meet you!

Martha Vallin is a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas and the founder of Balance & Bloom Counseling. She holds degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Psychology and brings more than 25 years of experience across public health and mental health services. She offers sessions in English and Spanish, with room for the occasional Spanglish when one language isn’t quite enough.

Martha welcomes the dependable friend, the family problem-solver, and anyone whose “I’m fine” is doing a lot of heavy lifting. She works with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and life’s unexpected plot twists.

That pressure to hold everything together can feel especially familiar to men, refinery and plant workers, blue-collar workers, and their partners—groups Martha particularly welcomes. With a husband and father who both worked the plants, she understands how long shifts, turnarounds, demanding jobs, and pressure to provide can affect life at home. She offers space to address burnout, irritability, worry, communication struggles, and feeling disconnected from the people who matter most.

Her style is warm, straightforward, and down-to-earth. She believes therapy can include meaningful work, honest conversations, and a laugh when the moment calls for it. Using cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused approaches, she helps clients build practical coping skills, strengthen boundaries, and communicate their needs. Culture, family expectations, and lived experiences all have a place in the conversation. With Martha, being the strong one doesn’t mean having to do everything alone.

My approach to therapy

Martha’s approach is warm, direct, and collaborative. She brings curiosity, compassion, and a sense of humor to the work, because sometimes a well-timed laugh helps make a hard conversation a little easier.

She primarily uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and solution-focused approaches to help clients recognize unhelpful patterns, build on their strengths, and find practical ways forward. That might mean questioning the anxious brain’s latest worst-case screenplay, practicing how to say “no” without a five-paragraph explanation, or learning to talk about feelings before they come out sideways.

Martha balances space to process difficult experiences with tools clients can use in everyday life. She considers each person’s culture, relationships, and circumstances, tailoring therapy to their needs and pace. Clients and Martha work together to set meaningful goals—without turning personal growth into another full-time job.

What you can expect from me

The first session with Martha is a chance to get acquainted, talk about what brings clients to therapy, and explore what they hope will change. She’ll ask about current concerns, relevant history, strengths, and support systems. She’ll also review confidentiality, answer questions, and begin identifying goals together. It’s a conversation—no PowerPoint presentation or perfectly organized life story required.

Clients don’t need to know where to start, have the “right” words, or share everything on day one. “There’s a lot going on, and I don’t know where to begin” is a perfectly acceptable opening. Martha will help guide the conversation while respecting their pace. Her goal is for clients to feel heard, understand what working together could look like, and feel comfortable asking questions—including whether she’s the right fit for them.
