Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Marva Carter, a warm and dedicated mental health and addiction counselor. I’ve trained at Sinclair Community College and Indiana Wesleyan University, and earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health to support better the people I serve. I bring experience in correctional and community settings, and I especially enjoy working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. In our work together, I’ll meet you with empathy and respect, and provide practical tools to help you regain balance and improve your quality of life.

Over the years, I have supported people facing addiction, trauma, and other mental health challenges. I specialize in substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns, using a person-centered and empathetic approach. My goal is to help you feel understood, empowered, and hopeful as you move toward meaningful change.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect their first session with me to be a supportive and collaborative experience. I focus on creating a safe, welcoming space where clients can share what brings them in, discuss their goals, and begin to explore their concerns at their own pace. I typically start by learning more about the client's background, current challenges, and what they hope to achieve from therapy or coaching. We'll discuss any prior support experiences, clarify confidentiality, and address any questions or concerns about the process.

The pace and depth of the first session depend entirely on what the client feels comfortable sharing. There is no pressure to disclose everything right away—my priority is to establish trust, build a rapport, and ensure clients feel heard and respected. By the end of the session, we'll discuss possible next steps and collaboratively set goals for our work together.
